Antigua, the Gem of Guatemala

Antigua is hardly recognizable as Central America. The contrast between this colonial gem and nearby Guatemala City couldn’t be more drastic. There is no better word to describe Antigua then comfortable. After weeks of traveling through impoverished areas this historically preserved city is a clean and sophisticated refuge for the road weary. Doing Good Things in Guatemala

We originally found Buenas Cosas via the Help Exchange website which partners volunteers with organizations that need free labor. It’s a woman-run cooperative that serves their local community through a variety of projects. Buenas Cosas builds vegetable gardens, teaches English, repairs homes, assists the elderly, educates Guatemalans about household toxins and provides proper care and habitation for animals (in addition to a long list of other things.)  They are based out of San Benito, Guatemala.
